In preparing for our first major home improvement project, I was advised to award the bid not simply on lowest bid but on a combination of factors with price being of a secondary importance. What I learned in my preparation was that the contractor is the key element in the decision-making process- you need to pick one that you trust, one who can work with you and you with him, and one who is competent and experienced. As we had the potential bidders come in to assess the project, we were assessing them as well. We decided to pick Eppinette Construction LLC before the bidding process was totally complete.
